Improve Your Home's Curb Appeal with These DIY Projects

Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal with These DIY Projects

When you put your home on the market, it’s all about the curb appeal. Potential homebuyers
aren’t going to be interested in viewing the rest of your house if they aren’t impressed with the
exterior. Small changes to your curb appeal can make a big impact when people check out your
home online or through other listing services.

Improving your home’s curb appeal is all about working with what you have. Go with the design
elements that you already love and focus on updating and refining details that homebuyers
notice. A lot of what needs to be done is not different from your basic spring cleaning yard work.
Trimming the hedges, cleaning out gutters, adding mulch to flower beds and mowing the lawn
are all great places to start. However, if you really want your home to stand out, you have to go
the extra mile. These helpful DIY projects are a great place to start.

Pressure Wash Your Driveway
Your driveway has probably seen its fair share of traffic over the years and shows it. A good
pressure washer can rinse away years of tire marks and scuffs to reveal cleaner and brighter
concrete underneath. There are definitely services that can do this job for you, but if you have
access to a pressure washer yourself, it’s really a simple you are capable of doing yourself.
Plus, it can be cathartic watching all that dirt and grime blast away.
Ask around your local hardware stores for quotes on renting a power or pressure washer to get
the best deals. You have to invest in other products and accessories including degreaser and
detergent to effectively power wash your driveway. Always read the instruction and safety
manual before using a piece of heavy machinery like a power washer.

Paint the Front Door

If you don’t have time to repaint your entire home’s exterior, you can still update its look and
draw the eye in with a bright new color on your front door. It may seem crazy, but it can be a
little detail like an interesting front door that makes a home shopper want to look inside. If there
is some sort of funky, cool detail apparent to visitors, they will want to see more.
When choosing a color, don’t just pick the brightest or wackiest option you can think of. Work
with your home’s existing color scheme and find something that complements the other
elements of the house rather than overpowering them. Try taking a digital picture of your home’s
exterior and experimenting with different color options through photo editing software or an
online application to get an idea of what works best.

Add Solar Lights

Adding solar lights to your front yard combines two things homebuyers love: It looks great and is
eco-friendliness. Lend some illumination along flower beds and walkways so people can get up
and around the yard even on the darkest nights. These sun-powered lanterns are a great option
because they don’t add to a home’s utilities bill. Plus, they are low maintenance to boot.
More tips for adding solar lanterns to your front yard:
● Use lamps to highlight garden features like fountains or benches.
● Keep them out of high traffic areas to avoid accidentally destroying them with your lawn
mower or car.

● Solar lanterns need the maximum amount of sunlight throughout the day. Observe the
shadow patterns of your front yard and avoid placing lanterns in shady spots.
● Some larger solar lamp systems attach to a panel that absorbs sun energy. Research
which option is best for your home’s needs before investing.
● All solar lanterns need to be fully charged before installation.
● Water soil a few hours before installation to make it easier.
Your home’s curb appeal draws in potential buyers when you put it on the market. Beyond your
normal yard maintenance, you can help your home stand out from the rest with extra projects
that improve curb appeal. Pressure wash your driveway to remove stains and make concrete
look like it was just poured. A new coat of paint on the front door can update your entire home’s
look. Finally, add eco-friendly illumination with solar powered lanterns that highlight your yard’s
best features.

Thoroughbred Christmas Lights 2017 in Rancho Cucamonga "A Christmas Spectacle"

Thoroughbred Christmas Lights 2017 in Rancho Cucamonga "A Christmas Spectacle"

A Christmas Spectacle

This weekend I visited the lovely neighborhood of Thoroughbred located in Rancho Cucamonga. Known for their elaborate displays during the winter holiday this neighborhood is known quite well around the area. This tradition in the neighborhood of Rancho Cucamonga has had a reputation of being consistent for over two decades and does not show any signs of stopping now, with thousands of people visiting from all over Southern California every weekend. There are many stories as to how this tradition began from stories of two neighbors competing who has the best Christmas decoration, to the city of rancho informing new buyers they have to set up an elaborate display, and some even say Santas workshop is hidden in the hills of Alta Loma. So please I am positive you will not be disappointed with the display. It starts from the 1st week of December and ends on the 24th Christmas Eve.

What You Can Expect to See

You can expect to see lights! Lots and lots of lights! So much that I would not be surprised if all of Rancho Cucamonga's power would be rerouted to here. There is a house for every type of theme from Christmas movies such as The Grinch, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Other like to support their sports teams all over their decorations and some think outside the box and like to keep the summertime alive during the winter season. This video below gives you a short little summary of what to expect from the neighborhood.

If you want to check out Josh's full blog about the Thoroughbred Lights in Rancho Cucamonga he goes into way more detail about every house and everything there is to see about Thoroughbred.

How to Get to Thoroughbred

Since I came all the way from Jurupa Valley, I can tell you its worth the drive and the traffic.
There is no specific address to get to Thoroughbred since its a street but this is the address given to google to help you get there. 5485 Sapphire St, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91701.
But once you get close to Thoroughbred you will notice the big cluster of traffic to get up there.
unfortunately, walk thru traffic will not be allowed starting December 15th. You will only be able to enjoy watching in the comfort of your vehicle. In this video, Deputy Sheriff Jacob Bailey will explain more about these changes.

To learn more about and see the Traffic/Parking Map please visit the
City of Rancho Cucamonga Website

What is the Cost of Waiting Until Next Year to Buy?

What is the Cost of Waiting Until Next Year to Buy?

We recently shared that over the course of the last 12 months, home prices have appreciated by 7.0%. Over the same amount of time, interest rates have remained historically low which has allowed many buyers to enter the #market.
As a seller, you will likely be most concerned about ‘short-term price’ – where home values are headed over the next six months. As a buyer, however, you must not be concerned about price, but instead about the ‘long-term cost’ of the home.
The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), Freddie Macand Fannie Mae all project that mortgage interest rates will increase by this time next year. According to CoreLogic’s most recent Home Price Index Report, home prices will appreciate by 4.7% over the next 12 months.

What Does This Mean as a Buyer?

If home prices appreciate by 4.7% over the next twelve months as predicted by CoreLogic, here is a simple demonstration of the impact that an increase in interest rate would have on the #mortgage payment of a home selling for approximately $250,000 today:

Bottom Line

If buying a home is in your plan for 2018, doing it sooner rather than later could save you thousands of dollars over the terms of your loan.
